Once the credit bureau receives your request, it must investigate the items you dispute and contact you within 30 days.

If you let the bureau know that you have a loan application pending, it may do a "rush" investigation. However, it's always better to get errors fixed before you apply for credit.If a credit bureau cannot verify the information you claim is wrong, it must remove it.

Sometimes the bureaus will go ahead and take your word for it, if they determine
that rechecking the item
is more trouble than it's worth.
